Please tell me about the reading you have done for the first two weeks of school. I am interested to know the scope and type of reading that you have done. Don't just list articles or books; tell a little bit about what you read -- what you thought of it, whether it was hard reading or not, whether you would recommend it to others. You may mention the reading you have done for other classes, but I am mainly interested in the reading you have done on your own, by your choice. Try to give a good picture of your reading habits. I will grade your report on its clarity and completeness, so express yourself well and be thorough. Remember to check spelling and other mechanics before you publish.

Over the past few weeks I have been really busy but have managed my time and have been reading a novel called The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult. This book is very interesting in a good kind of way. It is about a girl living her life with her dad until she gets raped so then they find her biological mother and she comes into the story. It is about how their relationship grows through out the story. This book is 400 pages long and I am about half way through on page 200 therefore I do not know the outcome but I am excited to finish this book! I would recommend this book to a girl not a guy if they like to read because it is a hard book to read and it is pretty long. I have also been reading my World Civilizations textbook for homework almost every night. There is rarely a day when I do not go without reading.
For the first two weeks of school I have read various news articles and the book Slaughter House Five. The book is about a person's experiences in World War II and his life, focusing on the fire bombing of Dresden. It is a great satire that is dark, funny and for anyone to read. Also everyday I read current news online at yahoo news to know what is going on in the world.
Over the last two weeks i have done a lot of reading. I have read articles on the internet and read stuff on Myspace. I read a book called 23 Minutes in Hell. This book talks about a man who died and went to hell for 23 minutes but then was revived and came back alive. He talks about all the things he saw and felt in hell and now is trying to get everyone to believe in God so no one will experience what he did. It's a very interesting book and i would recommend it to everyone. Also i have been reading a book called Laguna Cove. This book is about a girl that just moved to California and is trying to fit in and find friends. She hates california at first but once she starts making new friends she really enjoys it. Soon she learns to surf and gets really good at it. This book was really good and i would recommend it to other people. Also throughout the last few weeks i have been reading a lot in History class. We are assigned to read the textbook and then take notes on what we read. Overall i have done a lot of reading in the past two weeks.
For my reading book outside of class, I have been reading Lovely Bones. The book is about a girl who was walking home from school and got raped and killed. The killer barried her bones and had the whole thing planned out on how he was going to do it. He dug an underground tunnel and had furniture and a room down there where he was going to rape her and kill her. After he killed her, he put her bones in a bag and threw them away where nobody would find them. The story is told in her point of view, looking down on everybody from heaven. She watches as her family and friends struggle trying to figure out who killed her. This book is kind of difficult to understand just because it is told in her point of view and she is telling us what her family is saying. It is a really good book so far and I have enjoyed reading it. I try to read it every night but that doesn't always happen becaus ei have a lot of other homework, soccer, and work on top of that.
I have read Artemis Fowl the Arctic Incident which was a fun relatively tough read on a criminal genius whose dad was kidnapped. I also read Artemis Fowl the Eternity code Artemis fowl and the opal Deception. All of these books were so good I couldn’t put them down about one for every four nights. All of these books were fun but tough reading and I would suggest them to anyone who was a fan of reading. I have just started to read I robot but I haven’t read very much.
For the two weeks that we have been in school I have been reading a few different things. For a few days I was reading the book A Million Little Pieces. I haven't gotten too far in the book but so far it has been a really good book. The beginning of it is really interesting and makes you not want to stop reading. It starts off good and I'm sure it will just continue to get better and more interesting. For biology I read an article about Florida's beaches and glass. They want to start crushing up old glass and put it on the beaches to make the sand sparkle when the sun hits it. A lot of people are against the idea due to safety hazards. I personally don't think that they should do it because there is no way they can be 100% positive that it won't harm any animals. Another book I started reading was a book called RX, so far it hasn't really been that interesting. Basically it's about some girl who wants to get really good grades and starts to stress out so she goes to the doctor to get put on meds. That's as far as I've gotten and I really am not interested in reading much more or it.
What I have read over the past two weeks was Eldest; it is a sequel to Eragon and it continues the story of a resistance trying to overthrow a horrible king. Eragon is a dragon rider that is undergoing training to become better by a former dragon rider that went into hiding when the king betrayed his fellow dragon riders and took over the land. Another part of the story is about Eragon’s brother Roran, and he took his whole village to flee from the Ra’zac which were bird-like humans. He took the village down on rafts to a big city where he would get a ship and sail towards a better land. Another part of the book is about the Varden leader which had to retreat from their old hiding place and move into Surda, the nation next to Alagaesia. Surda is a desert country with a Prince on the Varden’s side.
Over the past two weeks I have been doing a lot of reading. I have been reading this book called Don’t Waste Your Life. It is very interesting and inspiring. It talks about how to live life to the fullest and making smart decisions in your life. I am enjoying reading this book. I have also read my brother’s project that he did about his life. It was interesting and it talked about his learning skills to his favorite sports teams. I found out some things that I never knew about my brother in his project. I have also read many homework assignments. I am taking World Civilization and there is a lot of reading and note taking. I have learned all about the Nile valley and who has settled there and what it provides. I log onto myspace almost everyday and I read things on mine and other people’s profiles. I like to read the blogs that people post on myspace too. I also have a facebook account and I read things that people have said on that website. Over the past two weeks I have read many internet articles. The most recent was about the parts of a microscope. During this period of time I have read many interesting things.
I haven’t read many different things since school started. The one thing I read was Gridiron Magazine which is a magazine that tells you scouting reports on upcoming high school football stars. I read a little bit of this magazine everyday/night. There also was an article on Jack Elway and how they are saying that he shows very similar qualities to his dad John Elway, and saying he will be the next John Elway. It also has the top 100 teams in the nation and the top 20 players at defensive back, linebacker, defensive line and some more. This magazine had an article about the number 1 high school recruit, and his success from his sophomore and junior year in high school and how they expect his senior year to be amazing. They said that his sophomore year he hurdled a guy at the 6 yard line and landed deep into the end zone. Now that’s impressive. Jon Major who goes to Ponderosa is the 4th best linebacker in high school football according to this magazine. That’s impressive to a lot of people. Colorado high schools also got on the top 100 high school teams in the nation. Columbine is ranked number 23rd and Mullen is ranked number 39th. This magazine really caught my attention because it was about something I had an intrest in. I also recommend this to any one interested in high school football or just football in general.
The first two weeks of school, I’ve been reading on my own a novel called, Peaches. It’s a book by Jodi Lynn Anderson and it’s about three young teenage girls trying to live their summer lives without the mercy of their parents. One lives with her father on a peach grove and harvests peaches non-stop all year round. Another girl is her cousin and she is being forced by her parents to go spend her well earned summer with her cousin and help with the peaches. The last girl (my favorite character) struggles with the law and keeping her bad habits to a minimum. She is caught by the peach farmer on his land and is sentenced by the court to spend all summer helping them with the peaches. This girl’s name is Murphy. Her mischievous attitude and spunky since of humor really make the book, Peaches a great read. These tree girls ends up befriending each other and bonding as a summer none of them will forget. So, this is an all together great read so far and I recommend it for girls, sorry guys! :)
I don’t think I ever realized how much I read in a day. Like every word or phase you see on the wall you read. This past two weeks my grandparents have been taking care of me while my parents are away, and so we have been going out to eat almost every night. So I’ve been reading the menus of Village Inn, Elephant Bar, Red Robins etc. For Digital Photography I read my camera manual, and this weekend my grandparents bought me a sewing machine, so I read that manual. In Intro to Business, I’ve had study guides on the chapters. And I’ve learned about production, economics, and what needs and wants are to costumers. In my spare time I have been looking through recipes, and I’ve also been reading the dog care instructions for my neighbor’s dog, and I’ve been reading my labs for biology. At night I take out my Bible and read a chapter before bed, I just finished the Old Testament. I really enjoyed the books of Hebrews and Timothy. I learned how much God loves me and that I need to trust in Him more and cast all my worries and anxieties on Him. I haven’t had much time to pick up any other books lately with school and volleyball. But in this weekend I picked up the sixth Harry Potter book. I like how the book keeps you on your toes and always captures your attention. So I guess I read a lot in the past two weeks.
I have read something different every night. From magazines to novels to comments to websites. This kid named Chip Stahmer wrote me some raps that I enjoyed reading; it's his calling I tell you! The book I read from the end of summer till about a week ago was The Anatomy of a Boyfriend. I didn't really like it that much but it held my interest long enough for me to finish it. It was pretty decent reading, not too hard but hard enough and I would recommend this book to girls probably. I also read ESPN.com a lot. I like to keep up with College football and rankings. (Hoping maybe Nebraska will be higher then the top 15, maybe wishful thinking.) I get an issue of Teen People every month and regular People that I love to read. These magazines aren’t easy to read, they have big words but it’s not too hard. Not going to lie, I do read stuff on myspace too. I read on myspace: comments, messages and profiles. All fairly easy reading. I go onto AZlyrics.com and read lyrics to my favorite songs. When you think about it, you read every night whether you’re assigned to it or not, you’re constantly reading in life.
I have been reading a lot lately. I have found some things that i like and i found some things i dont like. first of all i have read a lot of e-mails for work and such. I have also read a lot of magazine articles one was about 9-11 and how it might be all a lie, and how the government could very likely be all lies and it changed my whole intire outlook on 9-11. I have also started a book about the person who predicted Hurricane Katrina and 9-11, and other things like that, that have changed our country and world. I have only read the first couple of pages but so far it is so good. Also my friends and i didn't read this but we talked for about four hours on how space works and what else is out there and what will happen in 20-100 years and 9-11.
Over these last two weeks I have been reading a series called Pendragon (I am reading the 7th in the series). This is a series about a boy who travels from world to world trying to find a event that he can turn for the positive side and save that planet. The book is like an action mystery that has you guessing the whole way through. It is a very interesting book that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I am three quarters of the way through and I am very exited for the outcome of this book
Phil Krell
I have read three different magazines in the past two weeks. The first magazine was about the 2008 Bentley Continental GT Speed in the latest issue of 'Car and Driver. It talked about how the knew Bentley has 602 Horse power and reaches a speed of 203 mph. It has 50 more horses than the 2007 Continental. This was not a hard article to read but it was very interesting to read about. The second magazine i read was the last issue of Road and Track. I read about the Mercedes-Benz Clk63 AMG Black Series. This car is powered by a 507hp V-8 4-cam 32 Valve engine. The car has a speed shift 7 speed transmission with a automatic converter. The Benz reaches 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. This was a much harder article to read because it had vocabulary in it that I wasn't sure what it meant. But it was much more interesting because it went much more in depth. The final article I read was about Jeremiah Trotter who was a linebacker for the Philadelphia eagles. The linebacker was added to the Buccaneers for a 1 year deal. This was a big loss for the eagles but the eagles are confident there back-ups can pick up the slack. This article wasn't too hard and it was a very interesting to read.
I have been reading a lot of the books my dad has given me but the most interesting of all has been A Brief History of Time by Steven Hawking. It’s all about space and the things in it. Also Steven Hawking explains his own theories about how space came to be, what happens in a black hole and what’s a black hole. Sometimes it was hard to comprehend but eventually I understood it. I recommend it to anyone who is curios about space. Another thing that I have been reading recently is the funnies in the news paper. I really can’t read current events because there depressing and the font it to small.
In the past 2 weeks of school I have read many things but the one that interested me the most was my novel I’m reading called A Crown of Swords. This book is the seventh book in the Wheel of Time Series. It’s about a boy called Rand that lives in a small town and is the chosen one so him and his friends set off to fulfill his destiny by fighting and defeating the Dark Lord and his followers. These books are really good and I suggest them to anyone that love a great novel that is so good u can’t put it down. I have also been reading the newspaper to catch up on current events. I’m also reading for all my classes like my bio book and my math and cultural geography books.
I have read a lot of the things in these two weeks, ranging from sports center to time magazine. I’ve read sports illustrated for most of the nights mainly articles about the Vick trial it was easy reading but it was interesting, I also read an article about Mother Teresa and how she doubted her faith at one point in her life and that was a little bit harder than sport illustrated and more interesting because it involves a huge figure in the religious community. They found notes written by her which said she doubted her faith at one point which is huge because when she died they were going to name her a saint which apparently makes her closest to god being a saint or something like that. Another thing I read was an article in the newspaper about the life of this guy who lives in Iraq that was an easy read. He writes about how his life is in Iraq, like how he had to send his dog lucky and his two sons to live with his brother because the violence next to his house was getting so bad. Then his neighbor a ten year old boy got shot and died, after that happened he decided to move to get away from all the violence and killing. I would recommend the Time magazine about mother Teresa and the story about the guy who lives in Iraq, they were very interesting reads.
I think the majority of reading I’ve done over the past two weeks involves two books I borrowed from a friend: Trickster’s Choice and Trickster’s Queen. The two novels, both by Tamora Pierce, make up a short series, but they also connect to her previous novels all primarily based in her fictional land of Tortall. The main character, Aly, is the daughter of the famous parents. Her mother, Alanna, is a household legend due to her combat skills as a lady knight, and her father, George, is Tortall’s main spymaster. Aly has aquired many useful skills from her parents over her 15-year life span, but since her father won’t allow her to become a spy, she is unsure of what to do with her life. Then one day she is kidnapped and taken to a foreign land, Carthak, where she is sold as a slave to a family of nobles. The god of the land, Kyprioth, decides Aly has what it takes to be his ‘chosen’, and sends her on a mission that will help restore peace to the Carthaki lands as well as allow Aly to find her calling in life. I really enjoyed reading these books – they’re now among my favorites! They weren’t too hard to read and had a great storyline – I would definitely recommend them to others.
In addition, I tried to read the news from www.thedenverchannel.com almost every night. I found it to be a lot faster than watching the news on T.V. for an hour! It was nice to be able to read the stories I wanted to know more about instead of watching every story the broadcasters could muster up. It really saved me time!
I have read more then I would thought I would have read in the past two weeks. I have read much about cars, sports and skiing. I read about a new type of viper that goes 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and that the new BMW M3 should be one of BMW’s best cars ever made. I learned how a racing Limited Slip Differential (LSD) works, to sum it up the wheel that needs the most power to it gets it from a LSD and this helps increase the handling and cornering. I read about the Mike Vick case and what really was happening at his house in Atlanta and who was involved. I think he was apart of the dog fighting but only in the money, I do not see why other people are not getting charged for dog fighting because there are over 50 known other people involved. I read about news skis and some epic skiing stories like a person who jumped off a 255 foot cliff in Wyoming with out a parachute. I also read out of my History book which was not very fun or easy to read. I recommend most of the magazines I have read which include and new car magazine, 0-60, Freeskier, Powder, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and many more.
Over the past two weeks I have been reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Its about Harry Potter and his two friends trying to stop there enemy Lord Voldemort, from taking over the wizarding world. It’s a good book not to hard but a bit long. I started it over the summer but then I stopped until school started again and now im on page 295. I would recommend it to others because it’s a good book and not to difficult. I also have been reading my World Civilizations book because I had to do some notes in that class.
Mr. Sale I have read about half of the book, Iceberg by Clive Cussler. I enjoy the books that he writes because they are packed with action and never have a dull moment. Iceberg is about a man named Dirk Pitt, who has to find a ship hidden in the middle of an iceberg but he doesn’t know that it is a fake, planted there by a man who wants to take over the world by cutting off resources. I really liked this book because it is a moderate read and isn’t boring. I would recommend it to anyone who likes an extremely good action packed story.
I have also been reading some of the new Harry Potter book, Deathly Hallows. This book is a little more difficult than Iceberg, but I like Iceberg a whole lot better. In the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry, Ron and Hermione have to face the death eaters and destroy all of the parts of the dark lord’s soul. I haven’t even got close to finishing this book but from what I have read it is a very good read and I think that every body should read it.
A few of the things that I read on my own time were interesting websites online, magazine articles, and the blogs that were posted by my classmates about their curiosities. My favorite website that I came across was one called the “25 World’s Weirdest Animals.” This site taught me a lot about a few animals that I had never even heard of before. Some of the animals included were leafy sea dragons, sloths, emperor tamarins, hagfishes, and yeti crabs. I learned that sloth’s body weight consists two thirds of its stomach contents and that their digestive systems can take about a month or more to complete. Another interesting thing that I learned was that the animal called an “Emperor Tamarin” is a type of tamarin that was named after a German emperor as a joke, but since this animal had such a long mustache and was so similar to the emperor, its name became permanent. The “hagfish” is considered the most disgusting sea creature to scientists because it gives off lots of slime. The last weird animal that I read about was the yeti crab. I discovered that these interesting crabs are found to be blind, have hairy pincers, and are found off of Easter Island. This website about the world’s weirdest animals fascinated me the most because it was fun to read and I love learning about animals.
I read the blogs about everyone’s curiosities as another choice of what to read and found a few relations to them. A few of the topics that really snatched my curiosity were about effects of the future, the solar system, and human creation. I remember reading about a curious guess on what technology would be created in the future. This interested me because I also wonder if in the future, robots will be helping people do their everyday chores and if our technology will become that advanced. Another interesting post that I read about was related to the solar system, how it seems to go on forever, and if there can be life on other planets. Also, along with another classmate, I have always been curious about how humans were created. Of course I’ve heard thoughts and ideas from other people and their reasons of how humans were created, but I wonder if they’re true or not. Reading everybody’s blogs has helped me realize that I can really relate to other peoples curiosities and be interested in the similarities between us
These past few says I have been reading articles from Digg and also articles from CNN Technology, both of which include very interesting articles on technology, world & business, science, gaming, sports, and many more interesting topics. I really enjoyed a certain article about Researchers developing a 360-degree holographic display, which was probably the most interesting thing that I read, it was very cool! A few of the other things I have been reading include articles about the Harry Potter series, which I also enjoy. I think this reading assignment is a good way to increase our knowledge.
The reading I have done over the past couple of weeks mainly includes Digg, because it has a wide range of stories. From tech news to politics, to religion and sports Digg has it all. Because the news articles are user submitted (not user created) they can be on your screen before the news is even reported by major news agencies. The “Senator Craig” Scandal broke on Digg hours before CNN even began writing its articles. The original article can be found here. My reading also includes a variety of other sources such as The Denver Post, mainly the technology section. I have also been working on finishing the latest Harry Potter book. In general, my reading has mainly included the technology section from various sources, but I still manage to pick up a hard cover book every once in a while.
I have been reading Flowers In The Attic by V.C. Andrews. It is about a widow trying to make life better for her four children. And in the long run she deserts her children and decides money is more important. This is a fairly easy book to read and I would definitely recommend it to others.
